FUSE Mission Opportunities
PROJECT 1:8 Costa Rica 2010
This summer you have an incredible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people in the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Project 1:8 is the FUSE High School Ministries summer mission trip. It is an amazing 8-day experience that you will never forget. This year we will be going to Costa Rica to work with 6:8 Ministries. You can check out 6:8 Ministries on their website at www.68ministries.com . We have also included an info sheet as well.
I can’t think of a better way to spend 8 days of your summer than to make a difference in the lives of many Costa Ricans. It is an opportunity to change someone’s life, yours included. Join us in bringing hope to the people of this Country. Please pray and consider being a part of this summer’s Project 1:8.
WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEING A PART OF PROJECT 1:8?
I believe that Project 1:8 is at the very heart of God. From the beginning He planned us and purposed us to share his love and to serve others in His name. He commanded us in Acts 1:8 to go into uttermost parts of the earth and that what we plan to do.
1. God has called YOU to missions. The bible tells all of us to go and make disciples of all nations. It is not a choice of “do I serve” but “where do I serve”.
2. It gives you a renewed since of purpose and vision for your life. Whenever you are totally committed to serving the Lord, your life takes on a new sense of purpose and fulfillment. You begin to experience the full life that God intended for us to live.
3. Personally it is stretching and brings you to a new place of intimacy in your relationship with God.
4. The friendships you make are those that last a lifetime. Whenever you serve God in a group like this, God creates community.
If you are a Christ follower then you are called to take time this summer to love and serve others. What plans have you made to do that? What specific things will you do this summer to invest in the lives of others? Project1:8 is not for everyone. But if you have not yet committed to answering God’s call to serve and reach out in some other way, please pray about joining us!

If you an adult considering going on Project 1:8 you will need to meet with Blake.
PREPARING FOR PROJECT 1:8
Project Serve is a not an easy trip. It requires a lot of responsibility. We take this trip very seriously. Therefore we make sure that we are prepared before we go.
On Project 1:8 we will be playing with kids, doing construction, and sharing the Good News about Jesus Christ in truth and love with everyone we can. We don't enter into this sort of challenge lightly. In order to serve well we need to be prepared and be dedicated to the training process.
Each student and adult will be required to go through a series of training meetings and assignments that help prepare us for the event. We train our students and adults on the following:
1. Missions – the heart of God.
2. Habits for success
3. Service – others first
4. Culture shock/Safety/Language
5. Dealing with conflict
6. How to share your faith
We also understand that we need to personally prepare our hearts for this trip. We recognize that our ability to serve God faithfully is determined by the closeness of our relationship with Him. One way we will serve God directly on the trip is through individual prayer in the morning and large group worship in the evenings.

GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT PROJECT 1:8
Who can apply for Project 1:8?
Any Christian high school student who is willing to make the commitment of time and energy can apply. Students from other churches are welcome to join us. However, it is expected that every student is actively growing in his or her relationship with Jesus.
Is it Safe?
Yes. None of us can ever guarantee our safety, but we do work hard and take all the precautions in order to make sure that Project 1:8 is a safe place for students. We also train students and leaders on what to do in emergency situations. Students will never be allowed to travel without an adult leader. We will always be in groups.
How do I apply for Project 1:8?
To apply for Project 1:8, pick up an application at the welcome table in the Fuse room or go to www.fuse411.com/missions.html .Fill out the application completely then turn into the student ministry office. Please take your time and answer honestly. Applying for the trip does not ensure acceptance. All applications are due Thursday, Jan 14th! Applications will be numbered as they come in, and acceptance for the trip will be done on a first come, first-served basis.
Will I have to be part of any training for the trip?
Yes. Training and preparation for Project 1:8 is critical to the success of our trip. All training meetings are mandatory for all students. We know that there are conflicts, which are unavoidable, and you will be given an opportunity to notify us of these conflicts. A list of all training meetings is in this packet.
How will I know if I am accepted for the team?
Our first team meeting will be Sunday, February 21st at 12pm. You will be notified during the week just before this meeting. At the meeting, students will receive further information and the fundraising packet. Students will need to begin work immediately on their fundraising after that meeting.
FINANCIAL DETAILS
Project 1:8 is funded through the following efforts:
Student efforts through Fundraising and support: $950. $50 is due when you turn in application.
Student Fundraising
Each Project 1:8 family is required to raise a minimum of $900. These funds will be used for supplies for work projects, materials, travel, meals, and other related ministries. To raise this money, each household will be asked to send a minimum of 30 support letters. These support letters will be handed out to students at our first training meeting on February 21st. These letters will ask for tax-deductible donations for the ministry project of First Baptist Church. Each student will be asked to write a personal message on the bottom of each letter. Students are encouraged to send more than 30 letters if possible.
Scholarships
Another way we will try to fund Project 1:8 is by asking members of the church and community to give special gifts of scholarships to the students. We will use this money to cover the cost of students who need help, as well as cover additional ministry expenses.
FINANCIAL FAQ’S
1. What if I have multiple students attending?
We regret that there is not a discount for multiple students. The total student fee and fundraising money will be required for each individual.
2. Will I get my deposit back if I am not selected for the mission trip? Yes.
3. What if I do not raise the minimum of $900?
Each student is given the very important responsibility of raising these funds. Our ability to go on this trip depends 100% on student fundraising. If a household follows the fundraising guidelines and schedule, and receives less than the minimum, the first step would be for you to try to earn money or support in other ways to reach the full amount. If money does not come in from other ways, then you may not be able to go on the trip.
4. What if I raise more than the minimum?
We pray that this will be the case for every student! We would then encourage you to find a student who needs some help and apply that extra to them.
5. What if we prefer not to send fundraising letters?
Some families prefer not to have their students send any type of fundraising letter or participate in fundraising events. If a family chooses not to send support letters and seek out sponsors, then the family is responsible for the full amount per student.
6. What if I don't have 30 people I can send letters to?
You will need to seek out as many sponsors as possible. If you do not have 30 people to send letters to then contact Blake immediately.
